When Roald Dahl was buried, some of his favourite things were buried with him, in what his granddaughter described as "a sort of Viking funeral". Items included some fine burgundy wine, chocolate, his HB pencils, a few snooker cues, and a power saw.

During his stay in hospital a mischievous Roald tried to arrange for his pet Jack Russell 'Chopper' to be lifted up to his window in a basket.
